MARIE ANTOINETTE at Sort/Hvid

As part of my participation in Bikubenfonden’s artistic practice program, I have invited one of my biggest sources of inspiration to Denmark, the New York-based performance artist Ann Liv Young.

On October 3, 2023, she and I will joined in conversation at Sort/Hvid, moderated by theatre critic Monna Dithmer. The conversation revolved around our artistic incentives and motivations. How do you make use of ugliness and revulsion as artistic vehicles? And why? Does art need to satisfy, or to challenge? Does art necessarily have to provoke? And must art always respect the audience’s needs and boundaries?
